Only trained professionals in the food industry should handle preparing raw meats. There are so many food borne illnesses from raw fish that chances are you will end up puking or crapping like mad after you have finished your "sushi" Your best bet is to buy it from the groccery store or do what I do and see if there are any specialized markets buy you.

You do not need a japanese market to purchase sushi grade fish. Citarella's 212-874-0384 has excellent fish and I'm sure they have sushi grade. They have 4 locations in manhattan.

http://www.citarella.com/about_us.asp The following website highly recommends their fish http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/7150792/new_york_ny/citarella.html

The Fulton Fish Market in the Bronx has the freshest fish in town, since they sell to all the fish stores. Just not sure if they sell retail 718-378-2356 http://www.newfultonfishmarket.com/

If you belong to Fresh Direct food delivery service delivering to most of Manhattan and parts of other boroughs, you should really try their fish. It is always fresh. New members need to join, place a $30 order (minimum) and pay a delivery charge. Right now their fresh caught yellow fin tuna is excellent. http://www.freshdirect.com/
